Letter Opener

An instrument from a bygone era? One forgets how many letters still land on a desk daily. Cards, invitations, invoices, mailings, and once in a while ... a letter. They are ripped open unceremoniously, envelopes and postage stamps torn, contents crumpled. Letters deserve better.

The precious letter openers from CADEAUX JEWELRY do your paper mail justice.

Adorned with skulls made of smokey quartz, lemon quartz or rock crystal. These gemstones are carved by master-craftsmen in Germany.

The skull is an eternal memento mori, a reminder that life is transient and that every moment should be lived and enjoyed to the fullest. Also when one is opening letters!

The blades are made of sterling silver, the mounting and other ornaments are held in 18 Karat gold with precious stones or diamonds. The blade is stamped with the logo CADEAUX.

Alternatively, a one-of-a-kind specimen with a beautifully hand carved frog in nephrite. The frog is resting comfortably on an 18 Karat gold cushion. Its eyes are of ruby.

Or a turtle in silver mounted on a cut and polished piece of onyx and adorned with a Ginkgo leaf in 18 Karat gold set with diamonds.

Blue Diamond fetches 16 times 1972 Price

Ring by Bulgari with the vivid blue diamond of 10.95 carats

At Christie's New York auction on 20 October 2010, a diamond ring featuring a triangular cut and unusually beautiful and vivid blue diamond of 10.95 carats was bought for 15.7 million US Dollars. The ring by Bulgari had been sold at its Rome boutique in 1972 for US$ 1 million.

The chief of Christie's Americas Jewelry division, Rahul Kadakia, said that even after adjustments for inflation, the price of the diamond had tripled in value, "demonstrating the incredible resilience of diamonds in today's volatile economic environment and the true lasting value of fine jewelry."

The ring was sold to a private Asian collectior. During an intense five minute bidding battle, the price of the ring rose from US$ 8 million to US$ 15,762,500.

COLOR Ring STARDUST

Rings STARDUST [CO-02-004 WG BSD and PG RPYS]

COLOR by CADEAUX JEWELRY

The CADEAUX JEWELRY COLOR collection is an ode to life’s spectacular colors. Autumn leaves, spectral rainbows, tropical sunsets, iridescent minerals, coral reefs. COLOR brings nature’s colors to life in gold and precious gems.

Ring STARDUST

The night sky has stimulated ancient and modern cultures, through mythology with its eternal chaos and balance, for agriculture as a measure of seasons and time, in astronomy in search of origins and with astrology as a reflection of our hopes and dreams. The ring STARDUST is inspired by constellations, galaxies and nebulae. It mirrors the beauty of the night sky through an array of natural gems such as Rubies, Sapphires, Tsavorites and Diamonds set in a white or pink gold ring with an ellipsoid profile that emulates the apparition of a domed universe, and perfectly fits the finger.

STARDUST is a dazzling creation, evocative of the art of stained glass and Art Deco, full of fantasy, yet precious and made of gold and rare natural gems.

Ring: [Ref.: CO-02-004] Ring with an ellipsoid profile, a curved outer band in white or pink gold set with gems, and a convex inner ring band in pink gold.

Precious Metal: 18 Karat White Gold or 18 Karat Pink Gold.

KULT by CADEAUX JEWELRY

CADEAUX JEWELRY KULT is jewelry without fear. Symbolic, unmistakable, daring, flamboyant, unique and trendy. Made of precious gold and natural gemstones – for lovers of the Real Thing.

Ring ET IN ARCADIA EGO Fully Set with Diamonds

The skull throughout history has been both a symbol of human transience and yet also a continual reminder of the treasure and gift of life. ET IN ARCADIA EGO is a classic Latin phrase – “And in Paradise I (am)” – best transcribed perhaps as “I too enjoyed the pleasures of life”. Idealized by painter Nicolas Poussin in the 17th century, this memento mori was broadened to suggest that through art we might become immortal. In more recent times the skull has reemerged as an ironic encouragement to live life to its fullest.

Ring: Ring with a U-shaped band and the engraving ET IN ARCADIA EGO on the outer band; [Ref. # KU-02-017 EMRW]

Precious Metal: 18 Karat white gold head on pink gold ring

Gemstones: 629 pieces or 4.84 carats of brilliant-cut Diamonds on the head and the ring, 2 facetted Emeralds as eyes

Ginkgo and CADEAUX JEWELRY

CADEAUX JEWELRY created the Ginkgo pin in 1990 in reverence for a deep symbolism. This 300 million years old tree endured natural and man-made cataclysms, earning its stature as sign of longevity, endurance. A symbol of everlasting values.

Its split leaf (“biloba”) inspired Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to identify the Ginkgo with his thesis of duality - of two in one and one in two - in a poem in 1815, presenting the leaf as a symbol of love and harmony, akin to Yin and Yang in Eastern philosophy.

In physical respect, the Ginkgo’s health-giving properties have made it a coveted ingredient in ancient medicine and in modern supplements and cosmetic products.

CADEAUX JEWELRY made its original Ginkgo pin by minting technique that revealed the leaf’s precise and delicate texture, which gave rise to the English name Maidenhair tree.

The Ginkgo’s rich properties and its profound symbolism - both in the East and in the West - make it a perfect icon for CADEAUX JEWELRY.

CADEAUX BOUTIQUE Ads

CADEAUX JEWELRY AND WATCH BOUTIQUE has redesigned its integrative ad-series. The following are the first 4 ads that are being published serially in the Bangkok Post in July, August, September and October.

Ginkgo @ Kunsthaus Zürich

Earlier this year, on 17 April, Kunsthaus Zürich (Muesum of Art, Zurich) celebrated its 100th anniversary. A wonderful repository of modern art, from Munch to Picasso and Rodin to Polke, this museum also features in its courtyard, behind the library, a Ginkgo tree that was planted at the time of Kunsthaus' foundation one hundred years ago. The tree is legendary for its medicinal properties and along with its unique bi-lobed leaf it is of major significance in culture, poetry and philosophical meaning.

A recent article (below) paid tribute to the Ginkgo tree as patron of Kunsthaus Zürich.

Gold

In a current article THE ECONOMIST newspaper, London, contends that the present value of gold is still nowhere near its peak of 1980, in inflation adjusted terms. http://econ.st/dxtzET

CADEAUX JEWELRY recalls the erratic peak of the gold price 30 years ago. For a moment in time it pulled the carpet from under the jewelry trade, as the worth of inventories rose daily and it became much more profitable to recycle gold jewelry than to market it. For that moment anything sold as long as it was made of gold. The focus was on the material or monetary value and not on the creatvive, stylish element of jewelry, which really defines its social function.

We recently have moved closer to such a situation again. And inevitably, gold has that magical combination of properties, as a rare commodity that maintains its worth against a backdrop of inflation-prone paper values, at the same time with those unique physical properties that make gold resistant against corrosion and decay and allow it to outlast milleniums in its original form and beauty. And its physical appearance, its color and lusture, which have become synonimous with gold's value, physical properties and beauty.

Gold jewelry transports all these extraordinary characteristics, not only its monetary value. Ultimately it is design that distinguishes jewelry from commodity, that makes jewelry magical, functional and personal, where beauty and style are enjoyed long after the price is forgotten.

RIP Nicolas Hayek

Died: Nicolas Hayek, 82. Founder of the SWATCH group. In the 1980's Hayek succeeded where most succumbed to competition and despair. He brought the Swiss watch industry back from the brink and restored its self-confidence. We extend our deep sympathies to the family of the deceased. May he rest in peace.

Ring GINKGO "HAPPINESS"

GINKGO by CADEAUX JEWELRY

Ginkgo Biloba is the forefather of all trees and represents the concept of longevity. Its bifurcated leaf is a symbol of two united in one - a symbol of harmony, love.

The ring GINKGO “HAPPINESS” is the latest edition of a series of jewelry featuring the Ginkgo leaf. In this edition, the leaf is brought to life with a red ceramic coloring and finely set diamonds in a ring made of 18 Karat pink gold.

CADEAUX JEWELRY created the Ginkgo Biloba design in reverence to the Ginkgo’s profound symbolism. Also called Maidenhair, this tree has endured over 300 million years and today is without surviving relatives. It is seen as a symbol of longevity, endurance and everlasting values.

The bifurcated leaf underlies the biological term “Biloba” and inspired Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to relate Ginkgo to his idea of duality, of two in one and one in two. In 1815 he wrote an enchanting ode to the Ginkgo.

Design

Design is omnipresent. In its true sense design is purposeful creativity and materializes with an understanding of a product’s function in the context of a specific era and prevalent needs, values and trends. Good design is associated with a distinct era.

CADEAUX JEWELRY emerges in Germany in the 20th century against a backdrop of modernism in art, architecture and engineering. Simplified forms reflect rationality, functionality and objectivity. Clear shapes create an unmistakable significance and at the same time a platform for both more sensitive and bold variations in CADEAUX JEWELRY.

Shop Concept in Bangkok Upgraded

Rising from the ashes. CADEAUX JEWELRY's licensee in Thailand, Baechtold Ltd., is investing in a new shop-in-shop at EMPORIUM on Sukhumvit road, opening in July 2010.

CADEAUX JEWELRY & WATCH BOUTIQUE. The loss of 2 flagship shops at ZEN offers CADEAUX JEWELRY an opportunity to upgrade its profile as a retailer of jewelry and watches.

CADEAUX JEWELRY reverts to the elegant original color and concept scheme: racing green, a lacquer finish and the Ginkgo leaf symbol. "Perhaps we felt the loss of ZEN was an omen. Those shops were conceived with a bold color concept of orange and black. Cadeaux Jewelry reviewed its original concepts again and decided to revert to the original scheme. Orange will still be used to highlight new and extraordinary products," said Philip Baechtold.

"Our shop at EMPORIUM does not replace our boutiques at CENTRAL WORLD. We have been negotiating with EMPORIUM for a long time for a suitable space. Naturally we hope this move will also motivate our staff, our suppliers and our customers", said Baechtold. He added: "We expect to be reopening our flagship stores in the city center within a year when CENTRAL WORLD will have been rebuilt".

Last Look at ZEN Boutique

We take a last look back at the CADEAUX MAKE LOVE Watch & Jewelry boutique at ZEN in CENTRAL WORLD, which was opened in December 2009 and destroyed in the fire at CENTRAL WORLD following the arson attack on 19 May 2010.

CADEAUX JEWELRY is fortunate that except for the fixtures and the point-of-sale, no other damages occurred to life, property or inventory.
